How does Essence Extraction work in Aion 2?

Essence Extraction is the gathering profession in Aion 2. You harvest six material families from nodes in the open world: Odyle, Ore, Gems, Herbs, Logs and Ingredients. On global servers it appears to unlock at character level 10 (widely reported, not officially confirmed). Every Essence Extraction level gives you a common skill point and every tenth level adds a specialty point, so the profession gets stronger the more you use it. Failed gathers still pay out EXP, which means a miss is never wasted time. Gather Odyle first, since nearly every crafting chain and Substance Morph needs it, then Ore and Gems. At Novice level 50 the “[Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty” quest asks for one Splendent Ruby. Hand it to Korius (Elyos) or Alzirr (Asmodian) to reach the Professional tier.
  • Unlocks around character level 10 (likely)
  • 1 common skill point per level, 1 specialty point every 10 levels
  • Novice 50 → Professional needs one Splendent Ruby
  • Max Proficient Handling before anything else

What Essence Extraction actually is

Think of Essence Extraction as the game's mining, herbalism and logging rolled into one profession. Every resource node you see in Verteron, Altgard and beyond feeds it, and the materials go straight into crafting, potions, scrolls and wings. It levels on its own track, separate from your character level, and it pays you in skill points that make future gathering faster and luckier.

It shows up early. Most global guides put the unlock at character level 10, right after you leave Poeta or Ishalgen. Treat that as likely rather than official until NCSOFT documents it.

What to gather first

You can't farm everything at once, so spend your early nodes where they pay off most. This is the order most experienced players follow on global:

PriorityMaterialWhat it feeds
1OdyleUsed across almost every crafting line and Substance Morph; Radiant Odyle goes into wings
2OreWeapons and armor
3GemsAccessories, high-tier potions and soulstones
4HerbsPotions
5LogsBows and staves, plus Asvata paper for scrolls
6IngredientsFood buffs

Nodes are shared

Other players can hit the same node you're working on. Ruby veins in particular allow only 3 gathers before they vanish for a while, so don't stand around admiring the view.

How to level it without burning out

  1. Gather everything on your questing route instead of making dedicated farming trips early on. Every node is EXP.
  2. Don't skip hard nodes. Failed extractions still give EXP, and harder attempts that fail give more of it.
  3. Spend each new common point right away. The first few points into Proficient Handling make every later attempt more reliable.
  4. Pick up a node seeker skill (for example Log Seeker) for the material you need most. It marks nodes on your minimap so you waste less time searching.
  5. Plan your Novice 50 ruby run before you hit the cap so you don't sit at max Novice with nowhere to go.

Skill points: what to take and in what order

You earn one common point every Essence Extraction level and one specialty point every 10 levels. A sensible spend order:

  • Proficient Handling first, all the way. It widens the success gauge, which is the single biggest boost to your success rate.
  • Delicate Touch next, for steadier results on tricky nodes.
  • Plentiful Harvest for the material you farm most. It's split per material, so don't spread it thin.
  • Node seekers for whichever resource you hunt on purpose.
  • Lady Luck last. It's nice, but it pays off only once the basics are covered.

The Novice 50 upgrade: Splendent Ruby quest

Essence Extraction has tiers, starting at Novice. When you reach Novice level 50 you get the quest [Upgrade] Essence Extraction Specialty. It asks for a single Splendent Ruby, a rare result from Ruby veins. Here's the short version:

  1. Accept the upgrade quest once you hit Novice 50.
  2. Head to a ruby hunting ground for your faction (see the table below or our ruby vein list).
  3. Gather Ruby veins on rocky cliff faces until a Splendent Ruby drops. Normal rubies still give EXP and crafting value.
  4. Deliver it to Korius if you're Elyos or Alzirr if you're Asmodian.
  5. Your profession moves to the Professional tier.

Frequently asked questions

When does Essence Extraction unlock in Aion 2?+

Global guides report that it unlocks at character level 10, right after the starter island. It isn't officially documented yet, but it matches what most players see.

Do failed extractions give EXP?+

Yes. A failed gather still grants Essence Extraction EXP, and harder attempts that fail give more. Never skip a node just because the odds look bad.

Where do I find a Splendent Ruby?+

From Ruby veins on cliff faces. Elyos should try south of the Garden of the Illusion God Observatory in Verteron. Asmodians should try the west and south cliffs of Calderon Canyon in Altgard. Our [Splendent Ruby map](/map/splendent-ruby/) lists the areas.

Who do I give the Splendent Ruby to?+

Korius for Elyos and Alzirr for Asmodians. Handing it in completes the Novice 50 upgrade quest and unlocks the Professional tier.

Are gathering nodes shared with other players?+

Yes. Nodes are shared, and Ruby veins allow only 3 gathers before they despawn for a while. Busy hours mean more competition.
