Elyos vs Asmodian: Which Faction Should You Pick?

Short answer: pick the faction your friends play. Gameplay is identical on both sides, and the real differences are story, scenery and who you fight.

Should I pick Elyos or Asmodian in Aion 2?

Pick the side your friends or legion are on. If you're going in alone, pick the story and look you like more. In Aion 2 the two factions are effectively equal for gameplay. Both get all 8 classes, the same stats and skills, the same character-creation options and no faction combat bonuses. Asmodians no longer have the claws and talon feet from the original game. What differs is the main story, your home zones (Elyos start in Poeta and quest in Verteron; Asmodians start in Ishalgen and quest in Altgard), your default wing color, the field bosses you meet and which servers you can join. That last one matters, because each server is single-faction and you can't change faction later. Server transfers only move you to another server of the same faction. No official population data exists, so ignore claims that one side is “winning”.
  • Same 8 classes, stats and appearance options
  • Differences: story, zones, wings, field bosses, servers
  • Faction can't be changed later

How servers pair the factions

You don't pick a faction on a menu. You pick it by choosing a server, because every server is either Elyos-only or Asmodian-only. Each server is then paired with an enemy-faction server. That pairing decides who you meet in the Abyss and who comes through your Spacetime Rifts. For example, in Europe the Elyos server Siel is paired with the Asmodian server Israphel.

  • Pairings can be rematched over time to keep things balanced. KR has already gone through several rounds of rematching.
  • Some content is cross-faction: Transcendence, Expeditions and Sanctuaries can match you with players from the other side.
  • Spacetime Rifts open every 3 hours and let you raid the enemy's home zone. Check the rift timer.
  • Full server lists with pairings are on our server status page.

How to decide in under a minute

  1. Friends or legion already playing? Join their faction and server. Nothing else matters as much, because you can't switch later.
  2. Going solo? Pick the look: bright, airy Verteron and white wings (Elyos), or moodier Altgard and dark wings (Asmodian).
  3. Care about story? The two campaigns are different, so pick the side whose story you want to experience first, and maybe roll an alt on the other side later.
  4. Worried about balance? No official population numbers exist, and fan polls are tiny. Don't let rumors decide for you.
  5. Then pick your class. It's the same list on both sides. Try the class quiz.

Global vs KR

KR/TW servers are about a year ahead, with extra zones (Eltnen and Morheim appear to be KR/TW-only for now) and a ninth class. None of that changes the faction picture: both sides still get the same classes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Elyos or Asmodian better in Aion 2?+

Neither for gameplay. Both have the same classes, stats, skills and appearance options. Choose based on friends, story and looks.

Can I change my faction later?+

No. Faction is tied to your server, and server transfers only go to servers of the same faction.

Do both factions have the same classes?+

Yes. All 8 global classes are available to Elyos and Asmodians. See [all classes](/classes/).

Which faction has more players?+

No official population data exists. Fan polls we've seen are too small to mean anything.

Can Elyos and Asmodians play together?+

In some content, yes. Transcendence, Expeditions and Sanctuaries allow cross-faction participation. Otherwise the two sides mostly meet as enemies, in the Abyss and through Spacetime Rifts.

Do Asmodians still have claws?+

No. Aion 2 removed the claws and talon feet, so both factions share the same appearance options.
