Aion 2 Tier List Methodology

How the Aion 2 tier list is built: the sources, how much each counts, what each mode measures and what the list can't tell you.

How is the Aion 2 tier list ranked?

Every class gets a tier for PvE, PvP and solo play on the global (NA/EU) launch patch. The tier is a weighted consensus of four named sources, not our own damage tests. MetaBot counts most: it scores each class kit from the global client and publishes armory data from roughly 145,000 level-45 characters. game8's editorial list comes next, then Destructoid. A Korean community tier post counts least, because Korea runs a later patch with a level cap of 50 and a ninth class. Where sources disagree, we lean toward the global-client data and write the split into that class's reason. PvE also counts what a class brings to a group, not just damage. We review the list weekly during launch month and within 48 hours of each balance patch.

Sources and how much each counts

No single source decides a tier. We read each source's own rating for every class and mode, then weigh them in this order. We don't use fixed percentages, because the sources rate different things; instead a higher-weight source wins when two disagree, and a split is written into the placement's reason.

DestructoidEditorial PvE/PvP tiersMediumIndependent English list; usually close to game8, so it mostly confirms or breaks ties

What PvE, PvP and solo mean

  • PvE is group content at level 45: dungeons, raids and bosses. A class's value to a party (tanking, healing, party buffs) counts alongside its own damage, which is why Templar and Chanter sit higher here than on damage-only lists.
  • PvP is fights against players, from duels to group battles: burst, crowd control, escapes, anti-heal and survivability.
  • Solo is leveling and open-world farming on your own: kill speed, self-sustain and how forgiving the class is without a healer. It's the column our best class for beginners ranking uses.

Tiers run S, A, B and C. Every class can clear current content; a tier describes how easily and how quickly, not whether a class is viable.

How disagreements are settled

Sources disagree a lot, because they measure different things. Two examples from the launch list:

  • Chanter (PvE): game8 and Destructoid rate it B on damage, MetaBot rates it S for group value. We place it A and say why in its reason.
  • Ranger (PvE): S on English editorial lists and A on MetaBot, while Korean players report lower damage. It lands at A.

When the global-client data and an editorial list disagree, we lean toward the global-client data. When only Korean sources hold a view, we mention it but don't let it move a class on its own.

Global vs KR/TW data

The global (NA/EU) version launched with 8 classes and a level cap of 45. Korea and Taiwan are about a year ahead, with a ninth class, a level cap of 50 and balance patches global doesn't have. We never present Korean or Taiwanese rankings as global. They count least, and only as a hint about how a class scales. See global vs Korea data for the full list of differences.

Update cadence

  • Reviewed weekly during the first month after the global launch.
  • Reviewed within 48 hours of every balance patch.
  • The date at the top of the tier list is the last review, even when nothing moved.

Limitations

  • These are not our own DPS logs. We don't run damage meters, and the game's own Combat Analysis isn't a ranking tool.
  • Armory data shows what top players pick, which partly reflects popularity, not just strength.
  • Editorial lists were written at or shortly after launch and may lag behind patches.
  • Player skill and gear matter more than one tier at this level, so treat a one-tier gap as small.

Changelog

  1. Published this methodology page. No tier changes.
  2. First global list for patch 2.0.3 (Global launch, level cap 45): PvE, PvP and solo rankings for all 8 classes.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Aion 2 Atlas tier list made?+

It's a weighted consensus of named sources: MetaBot's global-client kit scoring and armory data count most, then game8, then Destructoid, with one Korean community post counting least. Each placement comes with a reason.

Is the tier list based on DPS logs?+

No. We don't run damage meters. The list weighs published sources, and the biggest one is armory data from the global client.

Why is my class lower here than on another list?+

Other lists often rank on damage only. Our PvE column also counts what a class brings to a group, and our solo column counts sustain and leveling speed.

Do you use Korean tier lists?+

Only as a minor input. Korea is on a later patch with a level cap of 50 and a ninth class, so its rankings don't map directly onto global.

How often is the tier list updated?+

Weekly during launch month and within 48 hours of every balance patch.

Can I make my own tier list?+

Yes. The tier list maker lets you drag classes into your own tiers and share a link.
